As usual the Greenwave men and women can not show any level of staying consistent. The Greenwave are up and down more than watching animals on the "discovery channel!"
Both teams have to fight a battle in recruiting.
Many Wave fans give D.Dickerson a lot of grief due to his inability to land an impact recruit so far in his tenure but over the last 5 years the Women's' hoops team has taken a turn away from the once dominate and top 40 program they were for a decade.
The guys that have been D. Dickersons best players were the product of another coach. Dickerson was supposed to be known for his recruiting more than his X's and O's but it looks to be the opposite, at least on the defensive side of the ball. The team scraps and fights and I hate losing but I would rather have a team that fights while going down rather than say - A football team the last year or so in the C. Scelfo era that seemed to not even show up or care. I'm just saying - ya know? Seems like we need to get S. Finney in here to recruit and let D. Dickerson do the coaching?
D. Dickerson has a solid group of guards coming back and as long as they can improve from 3pt range and free throws(ouch!) - we should be OK. The problem is at the Bigs(C,PF) position. R. Louisme is playing like a man possessed this year but he is about all we have there. A. McQueen is playing well too but lets be honest, this is basketball and you cant win many games with 2 PF playing the C position and ONLY having 2 PF on the team at that. We could sign the top guard in the country and it wouldn't matter if we don't get a BIG SIGNED! It will be tough, hoops recruiting is very hard compared to a decade ago or more & Fogelman Arena is only getting older and older while other schools we are competing against have at the least released images of new arenas or facilities they are building if they have not already built them.
Tulane is supposedly getting a practice facility that may resemble the facility SMU recently built and then going to get some major renovations to Fogelman Arena making the outside look the same but the inside a brand new atmosphere! - Well Tulane fans are dying while waiting and not because of holding their breath - its just been that long since these types of promises have gone unfulfilled.
L. Stockton, the women's coach has a nice core of young players starting with finally getting what I feel is a solid Big in the middle with Freshmen B. Benzio. She has the most potential at that position since T. McKiver, B. Farris and J. Burse. I am not putting her up there yet - but she is good enough if she keeps working and stays in shape. B. Lindsey is the best player right now and she is only a RS SO. So we have 2 really good ladies in the post for at least 2 more years and if you factor in a transfer guard from TCU (D. Nunn) then we are good to go! I have heard from reports at Tulane and TCU that she is tenacious, scrappy and one hell of a ball player. Unlike Men's' hoops transfer D. Booker(UNC-Char), D. Nunn is not expected to be a bust or shall I say she is not expected to fall short on expectations. Supplement that with an already young roster and we are looking good for the future. Especially with the signings of O. Grayson & B. McDonald incoming next year.
All in all, we are not down and out in Men's' hoops but we better get a bit more competitive faster & in Women's' hoops I will give about 2 more seasons before I consider them at the same level as the men's team.
