Facility News

EDIT - Dont get caught up on the terminology - it is not about if tulane extended or has a contract, in fact they may own the trailors/MODS, the POINT is - was there an extension by the University due to the NEED for HOUSING on campus and/or to give the AthDept more time???

TRUST ME, I HOPE I AM WRONG. I HOPE I MISUNDERSTOOD SOMETHING ALONG THE WAY.

If i am right, then we got bigger issues....

Word on the street is that Tulane has (extended the contract/renewed/decidedto keep, whatever) for the Modular Housing located by Tennis Courts/Reily Student Rec Center for 2 more years. This site is the location where the multi-plex sports facility for Tulane Athletics programs was to be. It would have significantly raised the level and quality of Tulane Mens/Women basketball and Volleyball.

The last rumor out there was that next summer 2010 was to be the start of construction on that facility with completion a year or so later. Now, if this holds true - that date gets pushed back to at minimum to the summer of 2011 and completion being in 2012 or longer....

The contract was renewed supposedly b/c Tulane Athletics could not/ did not raise enough money to get the project advanced enough so the University pulled the trigger to extend the MOD housing.

Can the date be changed back if someone gives athletics a blank check???? I dont know, but i do know that waiting another 3 years or more for something that is already many years too late is NOT good. I would assume that if this is getting pushed back, that the Fogelman reconstruction or deconstruction can not occur.

I would suspect that Coach Dave Dickerson if he is able to get the ball club to .500 or higher next season will be on the 1st train out of town with this delay- yet again. I dont blame him. I mean, he would have left anyway since he is not a Southern Man (LA, MS, AL) south carolina is different my frieends! - but he will indeed seek to leave sooner rather than later.

I think this also brings in the discussion of how much longer Coach Lisa Stockton will remain at Tulane. Her recruiting is impacted just as much as Dickerson an dlets face it, each year that goes by those banners up in Fogelman get older and older on the Women's side.... We used to be a feared program nationally, now we cant scare a mouse in CUSA.

TULANE - eventually - when you are playing with a water-gun while everyone else has live ammo - you either have to surrender, meet your maker or change sides.

What's it gonna be??
