All Tulane teams have an uphill battle in recruiting - our proud academic standing can only carry us so far. Our city is a city that everyday you can find something else to love about it if you get out to see it. Our University is not too big and not too small - it's just right! The problems lie in the whether people feel safe in the city, most(90%) of the horrible crimes do not happen around Tulane University - The immediate area around the University is mostly an area of burglaries and minor assaults, which in my opinion is not a problem here, but in any medium to large city you will find that. There are just bad people out there and preying on a college campus area is just - "normal". Tulane is expected to begin a lighting project all around campus this summer to improve visibility in the immediate area and also installing security cameras.
Good Job Tulane!
No matter how much Tulane fans want to get past the Review and Katrina (or any hurricane now) - we cant! Not because we don't want to but because our competition will use it against us for 10 more years and we cant pretend that they wont, so that makes it relevant and current unfortunately.
Have we moved on and are we better - YES! If the University didn't want athletics of any sport around, Katrina was the perfect opportunity to make the move. They didn't, so as hard as it may be sometimes to understand the Administrations choice or lack of action - They didn't get rid of Athletics so something must be in the works. The Tulane Board and President Cowen want this place to be up there with the Dukes, Stanfords and now Vanderbilt's- be the best in academics and athletics.
